Dr. Chinna Orish, PhD, of the University of Port Harcourt was honoured with the prestigious 2025 Louise Hanson Marshall Special Recognition Award at the Society for Neuroscience’s (SfN) Annual Meeting, Neuroscience 2025, held November 15–19 at the San Diego Convention Center in California.

The award, presented under SfN’s Promotion of Women in Neuroscience initiative, recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing opportunities for women in the field. Dr. Orish’s selection highlights her longstanding commitment to research excellence, mentorship, and academic leadership.

She is the founder of Women in Neuroscience Nigeria (WiNN), an academic advocacy group dedicated to promoting neuroscience research, mentorship, and career development for women across Nigeria. Through WiNN, she has championed initiatives that support early-career scientists, foster collaboration, and expand access to training and international partnerships.

The SfN Annual Meeting is the world’s largest gathering of neuroscientists, bringing together thousands of researchers, educators, and clinicians from around the globe. Dr. Orish’s recognition on this international stage underscores her impact both within Africa and across the global neuroscience community.
