Reports of Neuro4girls Outreach to Ataoja School of Science and Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo
Women in Neuroscience Nigeria, Osun state chapter organized a neuro4girls outreach to two major Schools in Osun state namely: Ataoja School of Science and Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo on the 28th September, 2023. The event which took off 10.00am prompt was well attended by 60 young girls selected across SS 1-3 classes.
The theme of the event was investing in brain health: Dos & Don’ts.
The organizer, Dr Bayo-Olugbami Adedamola in her presentation introduced the concept of neuroscience, explained the criticality of brain health and practices that can harm or promote its well-being. In addition, the students were taken through a practical session of basic anatomy of the brain with the aid of human brain pots, models and charts. This was followed by an interactive and engaging question and answer session which provided opportunity to demystify several wrong perceptions about the brain. The event lasted for 90mins in each school.
The students opined that it was an eye-opening experience for them as they had no previous understanding about the brain. They desired that more of such outreaches should be organized for them.
